Gravel Exploration

Here is a great example of complimentary datasets used to locate and define gravel deposits.  Electromagnetic (EM) surveys provide a rapid method for measuring soil conductivity to depths of about 4m, depending on the instrument used.  Dry gravels have generally very low conductivity values, so the EM is deployed as a reconnaissance tool to indentify potential gravel bearing zones in an open field.  Once these areas have been determined, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) data is collected over the potential gravel bearing zones to better delineate and estimate the quality of the gravels.
